After introducing himself to his new neighbors (the titles of each episode are a play on the theme of introduction, "Nice to Meet You", "The Last Thing You Want is to Wind Up with a Hump", "A Big Bag of Dog" and "My Doctor Has a Cow Puppet"), he discovers that his married brother Alan has been living on the couch for six months since Judith kicked him out for cheating on her with one of her best friends, Tammy. Alan stays with his brother because he can't afford his own place and his lack of motivation annoys Charlie, who would prefer quiet time alone after spending time with his girlfriend Rose.
